About the event
Ancestors Rising is an immersive afrofuturist theatre production like you've never experienced before! Following
the success of the Ancestors series debuted in 2018-2019, poet and playwright Joe Davis invites us into an all new
multi-sensory adventure featuring over 20 local, interdisciplinary artists weaving together choreography, live
band music, singing, and poetic storytelling.
The story follows a band of time-traveling “afrophysicists”as they use music-powered experiments to escape a
post-apocalyptic future, trace their ancestral lineage, and unearth on a journey of self-discovery and
transformation. The play is a time-traveling musical production that breaks the 4th wall—and the 4th
dimension!— inviting audience members to be active participants in their own healing journeys.
